- Owen,
-
- I'm not so sure that this is a hardware problem.
- I think there is something screwed up in the BitWare settings.
-
- Let me give you an example:
- I tried the following settings for the Distinctive Ring Setup:
- -ALL the answer modes A, B, C and D set on Manual Receive.
-
- Normally, it shouldn't answer to any of the incoming rings.
- However, it answers to all of them ( in my case, three different types) and it
- attempts to receive a fax (it sends a fax tone as soon as it goes off-hook). You
- can do this experiment with your modem to see if you get the same result).
-
- I think they mixed up the settings in the setup menu. Obviously, what you get is
- not what you set.
- It might be a lucky combination that works, but who has the time to try them all.
-
- Jim, who also posted on this subject, says that his Distinctive Ring works fine.
- I don't know what software is he using (is there any other software except BitWare,
- that works on these modems?).
-
- In any case, I would like to know what version of ROM do you have on your modem.
- My ROM is labelled with the following: 18050/Spkr - V.34I
- V:1.309I - E/CS:49F3
- Is this the latest?

- Thank you for your E-mail of Feb.27/1996.
