  28. I'm not so sure that this is a hardware problem.
  29. I think there is something screwed up in the BitWare settings.

  31. Let me give you an example:
  32. I tried the following settings for the Distinctive Ring Setup:
  33. -ALL the answer modes A, B, C and D set on Manual Receive.

  35. Normally, it shouldn't answer to any of the incoming rings.
  36. However, it answers to all of them ( in my case, three different types) and it
  37. attempts to receive a fax (it sends a fax tone as soon as it goes off-hook). You
  38. can do this experiment with your modem to see if you get the same result).

  40. I think they mixed up the settings in the setup menu. Obviously, what you get is
  41. not what you set.
  42. It might be a lucky combination that works, but who has the time to try them all.

  44. Jim, who also posted on this subject, says that his Distinctive Ring works fine.
  45. I don't know what software is he using (is there any other software except BitWare,
  46. that works on these modems?).

  48. In any case, I would like to know what version of ROM do you have on your modem.
  49. My ROM is labelled with the following:     18050/Spkr - V.34I
  50.                     V:1.309I - E/CS:49F3
  51. Is this the latest?
